IF: The Blues

I thought that Valerienne Rose, the newest fairy, would look pretty cool rendered in shades of blue for this weeks Illustration Friday theme. Of course, it's hard to think of The Blues as purely the color blue. You have to also think of Etta James and Miles Davis and other fine American blues musicians. But I wasn't sure how to fit that into Lemondrop's world of orchard fairies. So instead here's Valerienne Rose saying hi. Perhaps she's showing Lemondrop how to sing the "Missing Tights Blues"?

Media: mechanical pencil drawing on tracing paper, photoshop painting, then a Deep Blue filter applied to various layers. I discovered a great brush for textures ... little skeleton leaves. It gives it more of a painterly feeling to it than a flat graphic approach.
